Physician associate collaborates with photographer on new RCP exhibition

The Faculty of Physician Associates (FPA) is celebrating PA Debbie Jegede’s involvement in the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) Museum’s new exhibition ‘Unfamiliar’.

Debbie is a lead PA working in the emergency department at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Trust and the FPA representative on the RCP’s Diversity and Inclusion Delivery Group. During the project, Debbie collaborated with photographer Theo Deproost to identify objects from within the RCP Museum stores that intrigued, surprised and delighted them both. Together, they worked to reinterpret medical and fine art collections in a way that will challenge perspectives and help create new impressions.

Debbie said, ‘Working closely with photographer Theo Deproost to select objects from the RCP Museum collection and bring together a clinical perspective and creative mind has been a fantastic experience. As someone who has no creative background, it has been fascinating to see first-hand the process behind the photos being taken and edited while working together to execute the exhibition. Theo has photographed in a way that makes people see the objects from a different viewpoint and I hope visitors thoroughly enjoy the experience.’

Speaking about Debbie’s involvement in the exhibition, FPA president Jamie Saunders said; ‘I’m delighted that Debbie was chosen to take part in this project that will allow both medical professionals and members of the public to challenge their thinking and expand their knowledge – something that as PAs, we’re lucky to do every day. I’ve experienced the exhibition myself and would encourage all FPA members who can visit to educate themselves and support Debbie’s work.’

The results of Debbie and Theo’s collaboration launched on 23 January 2023 at the RCP at Regent’s Park. 'Unfamiliar' is open to the public, who are invited to experience the photographs alongside the physical objects, which include stethoscopes and snuff boxes, and challenged to reinterpret them through their own experiences. The exhibition will remain open until 28 July 2023.
